When you are searching, trying the following:
- Use broad key terms (i.e., maps) if you aren't sure where the maps are in the database or if you aren't sure what kind of map you want to work with
- Use a combination of search terms by combining them in the Advanced Search function
- Narrow the dates to the appropriate time range
- Filter by place/topic/creator
- Try different combinations to see what is coming up
When you find a map and want to look more closely:
- Look at the item information
- Find out the purpose of its creation, the creator, any specific details
- Look at the related subjects to get more specific results
- Make sure to get the citation information
